The most problematic MAN TGM models:
1. MAN TGM 18.290 (2006–2012)
EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) problems: clogging, errors, loss of power.
AdBlue/DEF system problems: sensor malfunctions, SCR errors.
ZF electronically controlled automatic transmission — control failures, jerks, especially during intensive city driving.
Electrics (CAN bus) — especially in older models: “floating” errors, failures in lights, brakes, windows.
2. MAN TGM 13.250 and 15.250 (Euro 5 / Euro 6)
Weak D08 engine (6.9 l, inline six): with poor maintenance, problems with valves, carbon deposits and fuel equipment often arise.
Diesel particulate filter (DPF) — quickly clogs up when driving in the city, especially if short trips are frequent.
EBS brake system — errors in units, expensive repairs.
🔧 Why problems arise:
- Use of unsuitable fuel or oils.
- Poor maintenance or "cheap" service.
- Intensive use in the urban cycle (many stops, weak filter regeneration).
- Electronic components are sensitive to humidity and voltage drops.
✅ More reliable versions:
- TGM with manual transmission — fewer problems, especially in regions with poor service.
- TGM Euro-4 — simpler in design, no problems with AdBlue, DPF and complex electronics.
