DXi11 Engine Main Faults and Their Causes
1. Increased oil consumption
Causes:
Worn oil scraper rings or valve guides
Turbocharger problems (oil leak through the axle)
Remedy:
Turbine compression and pressure diagnostics, replacement of worn parts
2. EGR system problems
Symptoms: Loss of power, smoke, pressure sensor errors
Causes:
Clogged EGR valve or exhaust gas cooler
Solution:
Cleaning/replacing the valve and checking the control circuits
3. Unstable engine idling
Causes:
Worn fuel injectors
Problems with the crankshaft/camshaft sensor
Solution:
Diagnostics of the fuel system, replacement of faulty components
4. Engine overheating
Causes:
Faulty thermostat, water pump or fan
Clogged radiator
Solution:
Check the cooling system, replace faulty components
5. Difficult starting in cold weather
Causes:
Faulty glow plugs (on older versions)
Weak battery or wear of the fuel injection pump
Solution:
Check the starting and fuel supply system, eliminate leaks
6. Errors in the pressure sensor in the rail (Common Rail)
Causes:
Worn sensor, problems with the wiring harness
Solution:
Diagnostics with a scanner, replace the faulty element
7. Frequent errors in AdBlue / SCR
Causes:
Crystallization of urea in the system
Breakdown of the metering valve or pump
Solution:
Clean the system, update the software of the SCR unit, replace the valve
