Renault DXi 5 Engine tipical Problems

1. Fuel System (Common Rail)

  • Injector wear/leaks — copper washer failure, excessive return flow, poor spray pattern.

  • High-pressure pump (HP pump) — plunger wear, metal shavings contaminating the fuel system.

  • Fuel pressure sensor faults — incorrect readings causing limp mode.


2. Turbocharging

  • Bearing wear and shaft play in the turbocharger.

  • Oil leaks into the compressor side.

  • Boost loss from cracked intercooler pipes or loose clamps.


3. Cooling System

  • Water pump leaks (seal wear).

  • Radiator blockage from dirt/dust, leading to overheating.

  • Thermostat sticking, causing improper operating temperature.


4. Lubrication System

  • Oil leaks from the valve cover gasket and crankshaft seals.

  • Clogged crankcase breather leading to high crankcase pressure.


5. Sensors & Electronics

  • Crankshaft position sensor (CPS) failure — can cause engine stalling.

  • Coolant temperature sensor giving false readings.

  • Wiring harness chafing, especially at cab-to-chassis joints.


6. Emissions Control

 

  • EGR valve clogging with soot, reducing performance.

  • SCR/AdBlue system faults — NOx sensor failure, level sensor malfunctions.
